The Pursuit

God loves and accepts everyone that comes to him and it is HIS job to transform us all by his teachings. For this reason, I don't go about thinking people should impress me especially because I know I am also a work-in-progress. However, I have discovered that I do not get impressed by much... ..don't get me wrong, I believe achievements and progress should be celebrated and I really do like lovely things, but what really REALLY gets me is an individual's relationship with God and how that relationship informs and shapes his thought process and character. By this, I don't mean perfection, I mean PURSUIT. What are you really after? What is more attractive than a heart driven by pure, childlike love and devotion to God? THIS is where Enoch gets me: Genesis 5:24 NIV "Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away." -A fallable man (human being) walked with an invincible holy God so closely and deeply, God decided to whisk him to heaven in his prime! I have meditated on this scripture so many times... and it still gets me today. There is not a lot in the modern day compilation of the bible about this man apart from his lineage (Father of Methuselah and great grand father of Noah the ark builder) and a quote by Apostle Jude in the new testament: "Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about them: “See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones" Jude 1:14 NIV Enoch most likely operated in the prophetic, but what else did he really achieve? Physically speaking, Noah his great grandson achieved much more by building the ark. But Noah does not inspire me half as much as this man who walked so intimately that God had to take him to himself. We often overemphasize spiritual 'Gifts', physical talent, mental prowess, achievements, even drive, but what do all these mean without a heart of deep love for the Master? Really, what are we after? What is the motive? Why all the work? What really is the drive? What is it that we have that we did not receive from God? All our 'giftings', achievements or ability is just that - GIFTs and GRACE's'. No one therefore, can boast about it or think themselves as something because of it. This is what the Lord says: “Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, BUT let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to KNOW me, that I am the Lord , who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the Lord. Jeremiah 9:23‭-‬24 NIV Only one thing is needful, brothers and sisters, have you chosen well?
