I would like to recommend watching 'The Meaning and Purpose of Anointing in the Bible' uploaded on the 22nd of May 2023 on YouTube by The Bible Project.
Why? Because it contains a basic insight needed to understand why the Third Temple cannot be a physical one like the First and Second Temples were.
The Temples of YHWH signified a place where God met Earth. In the previous two Temples, the ordinances attempted to provide this by a temporary fix of continuous animal sacrifices to cleanse the sin(pollution) of a portion of the earth and its inhabitants so that heaven (YHWH) could indeed meet the earth.
It failed.
Repeatedly.
Why?
From YHWH's standpoint, here are key points to remember:
God is actually a Spirit:
''God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”- Jesus (John 4:24)
''Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats?'' Psalm 50:13
Man is actually a Spirit though in an earthly body:
''Into your hands I commit my spirit; deliver me, Lord, my faithful God'' Psalm 31:5 (and Jesus in Luke 23:46)
''and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.''Ecclesiastes 12:7
''The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life.''Job 33:4
Earth is only as Holy as the spirit of Man (human). Its inheritor and delegated owner:
''But you must keep my decrees and my laws. The native-born and the foreigners residing among you must not do any of these detestable things, for all these things were done by the people who lived in the land before you, and the land became defiled. And if you defile the land, it will vomit you out as it vomited out the nations that were before you.''Leviticus 18:27-28
Paul in the book of Hebrews did an excellent job of explaining why the Mosaic laws and their associated Temples were just a prelude to the actual plan of God - a Spiritual Third Temple of people filling the earth with heaven.
'' Now the first covenant had regulations for worship and also an earthly sanctuary. ''Hebrews 9:1
''For the Torah has in it a shadow of the good things to come, but not the actual manifestation of the originals. Therefore, it can never, by means of the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, bring to the goal those who approach the Holy Place to offer them. Otherwise, wouldn’t the offering of those sacrifices have ceased? For if the people performing the service had been cleansed once and for all, they would no longer have sins on their conscience. No, it is quite the contrary — in these sacrifices is a reminder of sins, year after year.'' Hebrews 10:1-3
YHWH timed the coming of Jesus at the end of this system, to accomplish what it could not do with finality.
''Further, he (Jesus) did not enter heaven to offer himself over and over again, like the cohen hagadol (High Priest) who enters the Holiest Place year after year with blood that is not his own; for then he would have had to suffer death many times — from the founding of the universe on. But as it is, he has appeared once at the end of the ages in order to do away with sin through the sacrifice of himself. Just as human beings have to die once, but after this comes judgment, so also the Messiah, having been offered once to bear the sins of many,[will appear a second time, not to deal with sin, but to deliver those who are eagerly waiting for him.'' Hebrews 9:25 -28
Jesus is coming a second time, but for (and to) humans for whom the sin issue has already been dealt with.
From Genesis, God's plan was always for the whole earth to function in union with Heaven. However, for the Earth to function with Heaven, it must be holy (undefiled). And, for it to remain undefiled, its inhabitants must be undefiled (i.e. Holy). The more permanent plan for the future of Mankind in YHWH's mind, [see Isaiah 65:17] ...would require an holy people. Therefore, ''God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.'' 2 Corinthians 5:21
Jesus the Messiah is the foundation of this Temple where Heaven and Earth have become one and from which the river of living water and the Spirit of YHWH flows to give life to everything it touches.
For Him to return to the former format of the previous Temples, where the blood of Bulls and Calves were used to cleanse and purify sin, would be a contradiction and defeat of the purpose (significance, person, purpose) and accomplishment, of his first appearance. He will indeed return to his Temple, but it is to us who believe and are born as he was: of water and Spirit. (Matthew 3:16, Ephesians 5:26, John 3:5-8, Acts 1:10-12).
We are the Temple of YHWH, here, Earth meets heaven and rivers of living water flow to the whole Earth. John 7:38 CJB
The drive, therefore, is to join Jesus in building and getting this Temple completed and ready for his coming.
'“The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands'' Acts 17:24
''But the temple he had spoken of was his body.'' John 2:21
''Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.''1 Corinthians 12:27
''you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.'' 1 Peter 2:5
''In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as the highest of the mountains;
it will be exalted above the hills, and peoples will stream to it.''Micah 4:1
